Today there is no standard for CI calculations. Operating cost for CI calculations are provided by applying traditional cost value calculations. The re-/calculation cycles of CIs range from manufacture based recommendations per aircraft type, per season, quarterly, monthly, weekly, daily to per individual flight. The leverage of accurate operating cost for fuel and cost of time is not proven. 

The biggest error in calculating CI values undoubtedly comes from the miscalculation of operating cost. This is unlikely to be resolved until flight operations and financial departments of airlines cooperate.
